Once we had the basic commands set up, we were able to choose which MagicMirror modules to customize our mirror interface with. MagicMirror Software:įollow the basic steps on the site to download and install the most updated version. You can find updated versions on MagicMirror.builders, or even google MagicMirror terminal commands. This is why I decided to not list the specific commands we used. There are different versions of this MagicMirror software so your commands might be different. Open the terminal and run shells commands to start the process of bringing the smart mirror to life. This will be downloaded to your Raspberry Pi. Now you can move forward with downloading and installing the smart mirror software of choice. Once it’s imaged it will be able to run your operating system. There are different versions to choose from so find the one that fits your application You will have to download the file and image your SD card. This is why you have to download the Raspberry Pi OS. If you try to connect the blank SD card to the brand new Raspberry Pi, nothing will happen. The “brain” is going to be the SD card since that is where the operating system is downloaded. MagicMirror provided us with a set of commands for the basic configuration, but a small knowledge of basic terminal commands is definitely helpful in this process. The next steps will bring the smart mirror aspect into it as you begin to program the software.ĭownload Raspberry Pi OS, your smart mirror software of choice, and image/re-image your SD card. The LED lights were powered from an open USB port on the R-Pi and attached to the sides of the frame with the included adhesive strips.Īt this point your build should look like a regular mirror. This is when we connected our Raspberry Pi, GAF-PiHAT, HDMI cable running to the screen console, and the LED lights. We secured ours a step further with latches and screws. The way ours was measured and cut, you could hear a physical ‘snap’ sound when the two pieces connected. Put the mirror in place and attach the ‘lid’ part of frame to hold it in place. Cut the foam to hide the excess space, and place it around the screen to create blackout effect. The right position for our build was right in the middle. This is when we mounted the screen to the inner, hidden rods and find the right position for your screen. The three main pieces to assemble as the base for your frame are the rods (hidden underneath) to hold the screen in place, the outside cover piece, and the frame itself. This is where you can paint your frame, too. Once you’ve measured the dimensions needed for your frame, cut the pieces out and sand them down. You’ll want to make sure it fits the screen size you’re using. Whether you’re using hobby board or wooden planks, it’s important to get your frame measurements correct since this is the base for the mirror. Raspberry Pi OS (32-bit with Desktop worked for us).Saw and Sandpaper (used to make the wooden frame). I’m excited to provide you with this guide for those who want to build one of their own. It made the ups-and-downs of coding worth it. Seeing the mirror come together was so rewarding. We had an old laptop screen at the office and thought it’d be great for a first video project concept. We wanted to show build/application options you can do with an R-Pi and have it POE powered using our GAF-PiHAT accessory. The concept came about because we wanted to find a cool project to do for our YouTube channel using a Raspberry Pi. Thankfully I was able to recruit Jeremy who was excited about the process and became a huge help. I was definitely nervous at first because I have never built a project like this, let alone built anything with coding involved. Now that it’s complete, I can say that it was such a great project to take on. Hi, ya’ll! Maria here to give some background about this project before we dive into specifics.

There’s often a kernel of truth to at least some of the tales, and such is the case with 13 Pineapple Street. The fun of old house folklore is figuring out where and how such stories emerged. “A silvery gray, shingle-wood Colonial shaded by trees robustly leafed, it was built in 1790, the home of a sea captain,” he wrote of the house, perhaps inspired by the glimpse of it obtained from his back porch at 70 Willow Street. The most notable of those is the Capote nod in his essay “ Brooklyn Heights: A Personal Memoir,” published in February of 1959 in Holiday magazine. Most are stories repeated by area residents who either lived near or in 13 Pineapple Street. The stories that do emerge - a connection to a ship captain, a ghostly presence, a 1790 construction date, a wife insisting on the size of the house being doubled, and a tale of it being moved from another location - all seem to have begun, or at least begun to appear consistently in print, after 1930. Few contemporary accounts from the 19th century have emerged, nor even many stories from the early 20th century, when so much history was being delightfully embroidered. What is intriguing about 13 Pineapple Street is that much of the folklore surrounding the house dates from the 1930s to the 1960s. Photo by Susan De VriesĪ house with some colorful tales attached to it is not unusual in fact, it’s expected in a building that has almost 200 years of history behind it. In the case of 13 Pineapple Street, some of that folklore was enshrined into the collective consciousness by none other than Truman Capote. Each dive into a Brooklyn Heights building involves complicated research and sorting through endlessly entertaining folklore. With a neighborhood that has been documented over the centuries by writers, artists and historians, and was even the first historic district designated in New York City, it might be safe to assume that each Brooklyn Heights house has a well-traced story charting its architectural and social history. Located on one of the charming fruit streets of northern Brooklyn Heights, 13 Pineapple stands apart from its brick and brownstone neighbors, a wood-frame, Federal-style reminder of an earlier time in the neighborhood. Even in a neighborhood filled with architectural delights, the generously wide, gray-shingled facade seems to hint at an interesting past. This high-definition quirky mystery puzzler will officially be released on 30 June on the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.It’s a house that invites a second look from the passerby. There are also bonuses that can be claimed through the demo, including screen backgrounds and a BGM track. The saved data can be carried over to the full version, so players can pick up where they left off once the game is officially out. The Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective demo is available right now for the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Steam, and is playable up to Chapter 2 of the game’s story. Hosting the feature was the director of Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective an d Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney, Shu Takumi, who expressed his optimism that the demo will serve as a “doorway inviting into a great big mystery.” He believes the HD remaster will also birth new fans for the IP. The trailer, shown in Capcom’s June 2023 Showcase, features Sissel manipulating ladders, bicycles, and gantries to distract an assassin. He does so by possessing objects to perform actions and influence those around him, and turning back time. For the uninitiated, the story of Ghost Trick follows a spirit called Sissel as he tries to solve his own murder and save others from suffering the same fate. In older comics, blue was used because it was one of the basic pigment colors and thus inexpensive (and because Hollywood Darkness is generally blue-tinted). Characters who fall under the Dark Is Not Evil trope are occasionally depicted this way too, to perhaps subconsciously suggest they aren't stereotypically evil. It also makes a character more recognizable from a copyright standpoint. In regard to character design, pseudo-purple hair is popular for similar reasons. Black is also difficult to work with when Power Glows because black is the color that absorbs all colors of light. This is predominantly because purple is easier to shade quickly and thus give the appearance of three-dimensionality solid black objects in animation (and Real Life see Vantablack ) lack contours and look very flat. 29.Much like Hollywood Darkness, purple is often used as a stand-in for black in comics and animation. As you can see here, thanks to the owner’s skillful color arrangement, the room fully benefits from the occasional presence of soft, relaxing lavender and blue shades. Many people love to put a gray couch in their living room since gray is such a versatile color. If you aren’t familiar with purple decor or simply don’t want to fill your space with too much violet, then a couch like this is a safe bet. The wine-like purple couch acts as a chic highlight to a bohemian living room. If you aren’t ready to dive head-first into a purple living room, it’s totally fine to start with a few furniture pieces or furnishings to see whether this color clicks for you or not. Still Hesitant? Start With A Few Purple Furnishings! While neutral tones (such as tan or beige) are crowd-pleasing and easy to mix and match, deeper shades like chocolate brown-purple instantly add a sense of intimacy to your living room. The best way to make use of the immensely popular ultraviolet color.Ĭhocolate-like hues are perfect for a cozy and timeless look. If you’re not ready to fully embrace the boldness of purple, this is a great way to create a more laid-back look. In this room, the vibrant hues of the ultraviolet sofas and ceiling are balanced out by the easy-on-the-eye white wall.īy making good use of the ceiling, the owner has found a way to add more color to the space without over-accessorizing. Many people don’t realize that a living room ceiling has many design possibilities. To get the best effect, try pairing them with gray, mint-green, pale-yellow, turquoise, or brown. However, these tones require a bit more finesse since they can sometimes be overpowering. When you’re ready to make a statement, darker purple shades are here for you. Essential Ideas For A Dark Purple Shade Living Room The classic complementary combination of gold and green is also utilized to add a lively flair. The star of the show, however, is the sofa upholstered in daring purple velvet. This room is covered in a striped, light purple wallpaper that’s both comforting and playful. Here, the masterful combination of subtle purple tones with tan and white brightens up the room while not being overwhelming. Purple and tan are made for each other as the neutral and subdued nature of tan works excellently as a backdrop for purple to shine. Together, these details form a uniform yet complex and stylishly decorated living room. While the wall is a relaxing lilac, the ceiling and other accents come in rich violet shades. This fancy-looking room uses a mixture of light and deep purple tones. This IKEA inspired living room proves that you don’t have to spend a fortune to have a beautiful purple-themed space.Īpart from the leather sofa, other furniture is very budget-friendly and can be found in the living room section of IKEA, craft stores, or thrift stores.
